Sony Vegas Pro 9.0 can’t play .m4a after installed iTunes 9?
I have installed iTunes 8 and SONY Vegas 8.0 ,8.1-64bits and 9.0 32-bits. They worked perfectly. But after I installed iTunes 9 64-bits last night. My endless nightmare began. The SONY Vegas can’t recognize .m4a file, regardless which version I use, even other SONY product like DVD architect or Cinescore, they can’t recognize .m4a also(it shows Stream attributes can not be determined).
I notice that SONY use qt7plug.dll for playing .m4a, I double something wrong happened in the installation of iTunes 9. But I can’t find any proof or solution.
The problem remains even you uninstall iTunes 9 (64-bits).
Does anyone encounter this shit?
I too have encountered this issue and it is incredibly annoying. What I did was revert back to the previous version of iTunes. You can download the previous version here:

The problem is not actually with iTunes, but with the latest version of QuickTime (7.6.4) that is required to run iTunes 9. I am not certain if a bug was introduced in this version, or of Apple purposely reduced the functionality of the CODEC in this version so that programs like Sony could not read the contents of the file without upgrading to their Quicktime Pro version. In the past, it was required to upgrade to QuickTime Pro for editing these files in Sony Vegas, and it appears that may be the case again.
Personally, I am waiting to see if QuickTime Alternative’s new version will allow for this functionality before paying to upgrade to QT Pro. I’m hoping that it will be released within a couple of weeks to support iTunes 9, but for now, QT Alternative 2.9.2 does not support QT 7.6.4.
